I keep reading from various web design industry blogs, and authoritative web sites, that we are to drop our prices in a recession.
I really disagree. If you drop your price, what is your customer going to think? They are immediately going to think you were overpricing not just your product/service, and now they do not know the VALUE of your work anymore.
I have always priced reasonably based on the fact that:
Like I tell my clients, I base my performance on the number of web enquiries they recieve. And as long as their web site is getting them new leads/customers daily, I know my job is done, and I also know that I have just paid my own annual fee and left them plenty more to make a profit from. So please, stop giving bad advice to people, let each person price according to the value their customer gets from them, and leave it at that!
If you need to do something extra this year, then offer your customer MORE value for what they are currently receiving, without dropping your price. So you might add an extra few hours of seo in the month without charging them, or send them little articles on how their web site is performing and what they can add to it to give it a boost. Keep in closer contact than you would normally, because they need you this year. Maybe they will ask you to do something that is outside your brief, like set up their email client, or fix a laptop, just do it as a favour, and as a thanks for being a great client. Let them know that you are there for them, and charge like you always charged, based on the value of your work!
